The price of care, in the open

For decades, you couldn’t tell if you were overpaying.
Now you can — across every hospital in America.

We mapped 560.4M negotiated prices across 5,454 hospitals in all 50 states against how well each one actually cares for patients — and found that what you pay has almost nothing to do with the quality you get.

The same colonoscopy
$972
median at two-star hospitals

One real example of a pattern that holds everywhere: across 1,978 hospitals with CMS quality ratings, price and quality are statistically unrelated — the correlation is −0.10. The stars don’t explain the price. Nothing does, until you can see it.

5,454 hospitals,
lit up across America.

Hospital prices were hidden for decades. We put every one of them on the map — so no one has to guess what care costs, or get blindsided by the bill.

The finding

Price doesn’t follow quality —
and it never did. You just couldn’t see it.

Across the 1,978 hospitals with both a CMS quality rating and enough published pricing to compare, what a hospital charges has almost nothing to do with how well it treats patients — the correlation is −0.10, statistically nothing. Top-rated hospitals span the entire price range, and 149 of them deliver four- and five-star care at bottom-third prices.

For years that truth sat buried in files no one could read. ClearPrice puts quality and price side by side — so the best value is something you can see, and act on.

What we make sense of

The same procedure, priced 25x apart — hospital median to hospital median.
We turn that chaos into an answer.

Quality Overlay

See which hospitals have the highest patient satisfaction and best clinical outcomes — alongside their pricing.

Value Scoring

Rank every hospital by the combination of quality, price, and patient experience that matters to your client.

Episode Bundles

Know the total cost of a hip replacement before it happens — facility, physician, and post-discharge combined.

Medicare Coverage

Show your Medicare clients what they’ll actually pay — across Original Medicare, Medigap, and 6,839 MA plans.

Compliance Monitoring

Know which hospitals are publishing compliant pricing data — and which are failing, with grades A through F.

Provenance you can audit

We don’t estimate. We don’t model.

Every rate comes from a hospital’s federally mandated pricing file — required by CMS under the Hospital Price Transparency Rule. The law forced hospitals to publish the truth; we made it readable. We normalize the raw machine-readable data, overlay CMS Hospital Compare and HCAHPS quality scores, and fold in 6,839 Medicare Advantage plans — the only place price, quality, and outcomes sit in one view.

Who it’s for

Whether you manage millions in claims or just need one honest number — it runs on the same truth.

1

Benchmark TPA rates against market

See how your client’s negotiated rates compare to the market median — procedure by procedure, hospital by hospital. Bring data their TPA can’t dispute.

2

Show total episode costs

Combine facility DRG pricing, physician fees, and post-discharge care into the full cost picture for renewal negotiations. Not line items — episodes.

3

Identify best-value hospitals

Find which hospitals in your client’s network deliver the best clinical outcomes at the most competitive rates — and which don’t.

1

Competitive rate benchmarking

See how your negotiated rates stack up against other payers at the same hospitals — identify where you’re overpaying.

2

Network design with quality data

Build narrower, higher-value networks using composite quality + cost scores instead of cost alone.

3

Rate negotiation leverage

Walk into hospital negotiations with market data showing what their competitors charge for the same procedures.

1

Monitor hospital compliance

Track which hospitals are publishing machine-readable files, which are non-compliant, and which have data quality issues.

2

Data quality grades A–F

Every hospital gets a letter grade based on file completeness, format compliance, and rate coverage — updated with each pipeline run.

3

CMS requirement cross-referencing

Map hospital pricing data against CMS transparency requirements to identify gaps and enforcement risk.

1

Find the lowest-cost hospitals near you

Compare negotiated rates at hospitals in your area for common procedures — before you schedule.

2

Compare quality alongside price

See CMS star ratings and patient satisfaction scores next to pricing so you’re not choosing blind.
